THE POWER OF EMOTION IN 2026

Emotions are the language of the soul. If you want to connect, speak their language.

Elizabeth Gilbert, Author

In 2026, it’s no longer just about have a great product, it’s about how you make people feel.

Your customers are looking for calm confidence in a sea of struggles. Connect with them and offer a little taste of joy to get their attention. From a morning coffee ritual to a home that feels more like a sanctuary, emotion is what will set you apart and make you stand out.

This month, we are talking about emotion-driven marketing. I am going to share tips on how to show up in a way that connects, resonates and keeps your audience coming back. Because when you make people feel something, you don’t just sell them your product you build trust, loyalty and dedication to your brand.

Warmly, Alysha

LET’S TALK BRANDING

The 2026 Brand Shift: Brands that win are the ones that make people feel something.

The 2026 Brand Shift:

Brands that win are the ones that make people feel something.

Last month we talked about authenticity, this month I want to share more with you on the other big defining marketing trend for 2026; emotion-driven marketing.

People are no longer just buying a product because it does something or because it has great packaging, they are buying how it makes them feel.

Insights from McCrindle highlight that we’re living through a period of accelerated change. A time where consumer expectations are evolving faster than ever. Their research into megatrends and 2026 behaviours points to a more intentional, values-driven, and emotionally aware customer.

At the same time, emerging marketing insights (like the DTC trend reports drawing on Mintel data) show that emotional wellbeing is now shaping purchase decisions just as much as functionality.

Let’s break down what this actually looks like, and what it means for your business.

The Rise of the “Feel-Good” Economy

According to McCrindle, consumers are increasingly driven by:

  • Purpose
  • Meaning
  • Connection
  • Personal wellbeing

This aligns with a major shift identified in DTC marketing:

Customers are buying permission to feel better.

We’re moving beyond products that simply “work” to products that:

  • Reduce overwhelm
  • Create calm
  • Offer moments of control
  • Reinforce identity

This is the intersection of function + feeling.

What this means for your brand is simple but powerful. Every touchpoint from your messaging and product design through to your packaging and customer experience needs to express what your product does and how it makes someone feel. Find a way to connect function with emotion. Tug at the heart strings, make them feel supported and you will get the sale.

From Aspiration to Authenticity

As I discussed last month, one of the strongest trends for 2026 is the move toward authenticity.

Consumers are stepping away from:

  • Perfect, polished lifestyles
  • Status-driven branding
  • “Aspirational” messaging

And leaning into:

  • Real life
  • Relatability
  • Brands that get them

In beauty, for example, the shift is clear:

  • Old messaging: “Look younger”
  • New messaging: “Support skin that keeps up with you”

This reflects a deeper truth:
Your audience doesn’t want to become someone else, they want to feel more like themselves.

And that’s what they want to hear from you too. It’s time to get real. Share the stories behind your brand, give your audience a way to connect with you on a deeper more heartfelt level to win their loyalty.

The Ritual Economy

Another key shift is the rise of intentional routines.

From morning coffees to evening wind-downs, people are creating micro-moments of control and comfort throughout their day.

McCrindle identifies this as part of a broader move toward:

  • Slowing down
  • Being present
  • Designing meaningful daily experiences

DTC insights call this the “ritual economy”, where products succeed when they:

  • Fit into a moment
  • Enhance a feeling
  • Become part of a habit

It’s no longer:

“What does this product do?”

It’s:

“Where does this fit in my life?”

For your business this means thinking beyond features and benefits. Find ways to make your customer feel like purchasing your product or engaging with your service is a way to spoil themselves. Help them feel restored, energised or indulgent. When you find a way to get your customers feeling this way about purchasing from you, they invite it into their lives, make time for it and will come back time and again.

Home as an Emotional Hub

Another trend making big waves this year is transforming homes into sanctuarys.

It’s no longer just a place to live. Now it’s:

  • A sanctuary
  • A recharge space
  • A reflection of identity

Consumers are investing in how their space feels, not just how it looks.

Winning brands are shifting from:

  • Product features → Emotional outcomes
  • Styling → Lifestyle storytelling

Because ultimately:
People don’t buy objects, they buy environments, moods, and experiences.

So, What does this mean for you?

Here’s the reality:

If your messaging is only focused on features, you’re missing half the picture.

The brands that will stand out in 2026 are those that:

  • Communicate both logic and emotion
  • Align with their audience’s identity
  • Fit seamlessly into everyday life

Your Brand Lesson: The “Function + Feeling” Test

Here’s a simple exercise to apply this trend immediately:

Step 1: Define the Function

What does your product or service do?

(Be specific and practical.)

Step 2: Define the Feeling

How should your customer feel after interacting with it?

Examples:

  • Calm
  • Confident
  • In control
  • Supported
  • Energised

Step 3: Combine Them

Turn it into messaging that reflects both.

Instead of:

“We sell skincare products that reduce wrinkles.”

Try:
“We create skincare rituals that help you feel calm, cared for, and confident in your own skin.”

Or another example for a food/beverage brand:

Instead of:
“We make protein bars for your workouts.”

Try:
“We craft protein bars that power your day and make your mid-afternoon reset feel like a treat.”

Final Thought

The biggest branding shift right now isn’t visual, it’s emotional.

Because in a world where everything is available, fast, and functional…

The brands people choose are the ones that understand how they want to feel.

It's All In The Way You Say It

Today I want to talk about tone of voice (TOV). TOV is all about how you convey your messages to your customers. It’s in the wording, the punctuation, and even in the length of the sentences and how they flow. The way you converse with your customers has a very strong influence over how they feel about your brand and purchasing with you.

Let your brand do the talking

Taking the time to create a brand personality that resonates with your audience is vital in today’s crowded marketplace. When used consistently across all your marketing communications your brand is a powerful tool that helps you to stand out from your competition and build an engaged and invested customer base.

Determining your point of difference

To stand out from the crowd you need to have a point of difference, a reason for your customers to choose you. That x-factor is called a Unique Selling Proposition (USP). It doesn’t have to be earth-shattering. Ask these questions about your products and services and also of your competitors to help you determine how you can make your product stand out.
