LET’S TALK BRANDING
How to Stay Visible when your Marketing Budget is Tight
Let’s face it, times are tough and small business is doing it hard. We are all feeling the pinch and wondering how we can keep in touch and front of mind with our clients and customers without spending a fortune on marketing.
It can be tempting to pause your marketing when everyday costs start rising, but staying visible doesn’t have to mean spending more. A few thoughtful and consistent marketing actions can really help keep you connected with your tribe.
Start with the people you know
Your existing customers are the perfect place to start!
Thank them for their support, check in with them after they make a purchase or use your services to ensure the experience they received was positive. And, while you’re in touch, why not make it easy for them to come back or leave you a review. A subtle google review and rebooking link can go a long way!
Make the most of the content you have already created
There is likely so much great content you can reuse or build on in your existing marketing and social media.
So before you start planning something brand new, take a look at your past content and see how you can re-use it in a new and creative way. You could turn a customer question into a social post, or share a past project with a fresh caption and a few new pics. You can write an update for old newsletter and blog articles talking about what’s changed or expanding on the ideas you shared previously, or even just send out the old content from the previous year again if its still relevant. Your newer followers may never have seen it and if it’s still great content, why not share it again!
Choose the channels you can keep up with
Remember, as I always tell you, you don’t need to be everywhere. Focus on the channels your customers actually engage with you. A helpful email once a month or a couple of informative, interesting or even funny (if that’s your vibe), social posts each week help keep you front of mind without causing burn out.
Show the people behind your business
Your customers want to feel connected to the businesses they buy from. Share behind the scenes moments, talk about your challenges and your wins too, introduce your staff so they can put a face to the voice they speak to on the phone. These glimpses into your business create rapport and build loyalty.
Conduct an audit
Make sure your contact details, opening hours, booking info and links, and website are all up to date. Make sure your clearly promoting your products and services in a way that’s easy to understand quickly and make sure it’s easy for them to enquire and buy. A simple call to action can quickly become a sale!
Choose one small task each week
You don’t need to do everything or devote a huge amount of time to make an impact. Choose one manageable task each week to get done. Send out a few thank you emails or update your website links. Ask your recent sales for a review or share a useful tip on your social media. Break it down into small bite-sized chunks and it wont feel so overwhelming anymore.
Reconnect with old customers
Send a personal check-in or a reminder about what you do. You might catch them at exactly the time they need you or even get them thinking about how they could use your product or service. It’s all about putting yourself back in their thoughts.
Focus on building some local relationships
Joining up with other local complimentary businesses in your area is a great way to get in front of new customers. See how you can work together to promote each other. You can also join a local business group or take part in a local event.
Check your Google Profile is up to date
Check your hours, contact details, services and photos are up to date. Remember also to post every once in a while, so Google and people checking you out, know your profile and business is active.
Give customers something useful to share
Create a checklist or guide that offers practical and useful advice they can implement. A bookkeeper, for example, could create a handy end of month checklist that their clients can refer to regularly to make their accounting work more simple and streamlined.
A tight budget isn’t a reason to cancel your marketing, it’s a sign that its time to get intentional. Focus on using the resources you already have available and keep putting yourself out there. I know its all super overwhelming atm, but every little bit helps!
BRAND EDUCATION
Make every interaction count
Here’s a quick brand touchpoint checklist.
Think back over the last few sales and enquiries interactions you have had with your customers. Do they feel clear, helpful and authentic? How can you improve your processes?
Before they buy
- Is your offer easy to understand?
- Is it clear who your product or service helps and how?
- Have you made it easy for them to enquire or buy?
When they reach out
- Do they know when to expect a reply?
- Do your interactions sound warm, inviting and helpful?
- Are you giving them all the information they need to make a purchase decision easy?
When they make a purchase
- Is the pricing clear?
- Is the process quick and easy?
- Are there any bottlenecks?
After the sale
- Do you thank them and ask for reviews?
- Do you provide them with useful information or make it easy for them to come back again?
- Are you staying in touch so you can be front of mind next time they need your product or service?
It’s good to regularly ask yourself these questions. We can get so caught up in the every day and not notice when our customer service slips a little or we are forgetting to share information that can make the process easier, but your customers will absolutely notice. A quick audit once a month can really help ensure your business is the best it can be!
LEARN MORE, CHECK OUT SOME OF OUR PAST STORIES
We trust heavily in the opinion of our friends and family so when you see a post from someone you know talking about the amazing experience they had with a business you usually file that away for future reference. Learn how to get them talking about you!
This month, we are going to talk about cross-promotion marketing. Working with other businesses that also service your ideal target audience is a great way to tap into a warm market of leads. How can you work together to help each other grow?
Most advertising, good and bad, happens when people are going about their daily business. It pops up when you surf the web, catches your eye on a billboard as you walk down the street and appears as you absentmindedly flip through the pages of a magazine while you wait for your coffee. It’s everywhere!
