These days, platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are dominating attention. Users are completely desensitised and endless scroll syndrome is a realm thing. You have literally 1-2 seconds to grab attention and stop the scroll.

So how do you go about it.. Short Snippet Brand Storytelling!

What is Short Snippet Brand Storytelling?

It’s all about sharing the real you. Taking your audience behind the scenes and showcasing how the magic happens. It’s why you do what you do, who you service and how you make people feel special.

A good brand story reflects your values, brand personality, mission and showcases your brand’s purpose… the why you do what you do beyond making a profit. When you present an authentic and real brand to your audience, they will become fans not just followers!

Why it works

Humans are wired to remember stories. Aboriginal people for instance, have passed on stories for over 65,000 years, not just as entertainment, but as a way of teaching, remembering, and connecting with the land, the law, and each other. Why, because it works! When you tell a story you capture your audience in a way no page full of facts or figures could ever do!

Emotion, visuals and authenticity build trust so much faster than any sales content ever could! And trust me, you have all the content you could ever need to tell your story you just have to start thinking differently about the everyday. (More on that later. 😉)

How to tell your brand story in seconds

Build your hook into the first 1-2 seconds.

Start with something relatable, a bold question or shout out a pain point.

Keep your post focussed on one key idea.

Keep it simple… one post… one idea!

Get to the point, don’t waffle.

Draw them in and then give them what they came for. Shorter videos of no more than 30 second videos are watched to full completion 3 times more often than longer content.

Use visuals.

Get attention and then add captions/text overlays to highlight your key message.

End with a non salesy, soft CTA…

“Try it out and tag me if you love it” or “Not sure where to start? I can help you find your first step”.

Share your wins, your challenges, and even the failures. Share what your customers are saying about you. Show up with authenticity and they will love you for it.

Got something new or special coming up? Nurture curiosity and anticipation.

What not to do

Don’t try and cram a bunch of stuff into one video.

Keep it simple. Do that as a series instead!

Keep it real.

Gone are the days of everything having to look perfect, present the real you. Save the polish for your cutlery!

Skip the hook.

People need a reason to stop scrolling. You have to grab their attention right at the start!

Short snippet videos are quick and easy to do, all you need is a little creative thinking! Give it a try and let me know how you go! And remember, its not about being viral, its about being memorable to the right people. Focus on your target audience and what they care about. Those are the followers that become fans!

It’s activity time… let’s put these lessons into action and give you something tangible you can post right now!

 

Step 1: Choose a recent brand moment

Pick something that has happened recently or perhaps something that happens everyday.

  • You packed an order
  • You answered a common question
  • You solved a common customer problem
  • You learned something new
  • You hit a small milestone or had a little win

Step 2: Ask yourself

“Why does this matter to my audience?”

  • Does it give some behind the scenes insight?
  • Does it showcase our purpose or values in action?
  • Does it reveal something that makes us relatable?
  • Does it give a sneak peek?
  • Will it inspire your audience?
  • Will it build an emotional connection?
  • Can it spark a conversation?

Step 3: Choose the right format

Work out how to share it so your message is clear, it feels natural and it has the chance to grab attention.

  • Short reel – Show the moment and add a caption or trending music
  • Talk to camera – Get in front of the camera and tell the story yourself
  • Carousel – Use a bold opening statement and highlight the key points on the following slides.
  • Behind the scenes pics – Include an honest and authentic caption and share what made this a special moment or why you wanted to share it.
  • Before and after – Showcase the transformation and what impact its had.
  • Graphic with a quote or key takeaway – Add a mini story in the caption. Share why it matters or how the lesson came about.

Step 4: Create a scroll-stopping hook

You need an opening that grabs attention or stirs curiosity.

  • Make a bold or emotional statement
  • Share a relatable Truth
  • Ask a relatable question
  • Give a behind-the-scenes tease
  • Mention a pain point they can relate to
  • Offer a quick tip they will want to know
  • Share a personal confession or reflection

Step 5: Add a soft CTA (Call to action)

Wrap it up with a simple way to invite engagement or get them to take action. Don’t make it salesy. No one reacts to that anymore.
