“Everyone is NOT your Customer”
Seth Godin, American Author, Businessman & Marketer
This month we are going to focus on developing your Target Audience.
You will learn why it’s vital that you take the time to delve deep and gain a really clear picture of who your customer is and how that can help your business grow, build loyalty with your customers and save you time and money!
It may seem like a daunting and impossible task and it an be overwhelming, however, when you break it down, it’s really not that scary.
Warmly, Alysha

EXCITING NEWS
As you know, here at Wow Studios our aim is to help your small business grow and thrive and one of the big ways we do that is by sharing our knowledge relating to all things branding.
Last month, Alysha was invited to speak at the Campbelltown BX Networking breakfast and shared some insights on defining your target audience, how to do it and why it’s important. A topic Alysha is very passionate about and of course the focus of this month’s newsletter!
Following on from that great session, we have now developed a mini workshop on the topic and in the new year we will be running these group workshops in association with organisations that help educate small business owners.
If you would like to learn more about these workshops or perhaps you have a group of likeminded small business buddies and would like to host a session please reach out. We can’t wait to get out and about delivering these fun and interactive workshops.
Give us a call or email Alysha at info@wowstudios.com.au.
LET’S TALK BRANDING
It can be tempting to try and appeal to everyone in order to have a large pool of customers or followers, however this could be working against you. Being all things to all people often isn’t viable. When you hone in on specific target audiences that really benefit from your products or services your able to focus your marketing efforts and budget on those most likely to buy from you.
It may seem daunting, however taking the time to understand who your customers are, why they buy from you and where to reach them, will, in the long run save you time and money and build loyalty with your customer base.
Wondering how to break it down and determine your target audience? It’s time to sit down and start to thinking about who your customer really is. Below are a few categories you can focus on to get you started.
Let’s do the first one together.
Depending on the age of your customer, they will have different needs and desires. For example, a teenager isnt looking for anything formal or overly structured. They don’t read newspapers or engage with business emails. They spend their time on social media platforms like instagram and TicTok. They have short attention spans and are quick to move on the latest trends. To get traction with this group you need to speak their language. Keep your language simple, use short sentances and communicate through images and videos. Think too, about where they spend their time when they are not online too. They probably catch a lot of public transport, hang out in shopping centres, at the movies, skateparks and entertainment precincts. There is no point advertising where they wont be. Do your research and focus your marketing efforts on reaching them where they spend most of their time.
Alternatively, let’s say your target audience are retiree’s. The chances of them spending a lot of time online and on social media are very low. They are likely still avid readers of the Sunday paper, spend a decent amount of time in local coffee shops and hopefully are off travelling around Australia and beyond enjoying their well earned retirement. Think about your product, what need or want it fulfils and how to get in front of your target audience when they are most likely to be interested in making a purchase.
So how do you identify them I hear you ask? It’s all about doing your research. This is the time consuming part, but the good news is, if you take time to do this step right, you will get a strong and clear picture of your customer. And once you have that, you can take advantage of targeted advertising.
So where do you do this research? Here are a few key places you can look.
Ok so now what!
Use this information wisely. Instead of putting out broad marketing campaigns that are really targeting no-one, create campaigns that target specific groups. Think about the language you use and the medium you are promoting through. Will your audience engage with your marketing? Are you talking to them in the right way? Are you promoting in the right place? Will they read your content or can you say it with a picture or a video?
Save time, save money and build loyalty but connecting with the customers that really matter!
CLIENT SPOTLIGHT
PLEASE WELCOME RICARDO, FROM TOP SUPPORT
For this month’s spotlight, I sat down with Ricardo from Top Support.
An all round great guy with a genuine passion for his business and his customers, Ricardo is definitely the right choice when it comes to getting your IT needs sorted.
A comedian at heart, read on for a light-hearted look at Top Support.
Tell us a little about your business?
Top Support is a customer service oriented business based in the South West of Sydney with clients all over the country. Our main skills are desktop support, migrations, Microsoft systems, networking and Cybersecurity.
Why did you set up your business?
I had always worked running IT teams for other companies and being the younger team member never really got to implement new systems and improve the current ones as there was always the mentality of ‘if it aint broken don’t fix it’. Which pushed me to start Top Support as an at home service but soon evolved into a B2B IT Support business.
What makes your business different?
That is a question that I always ask my team members along with what do we do for living? To which, what I normally get in response is Tech support!, IT!, Microsoft! And my answer is; none of the above. What we do is customer service and that just so happens to come along with our tech skills.
Network a lot! Haha.
What brought you to Wow?
The good looking owner haha, jks.
We met through a networking group, had a chat and Wow Studios aligned on my vision and what I saw as potential designs and work, also their logo! Let’s all agree it is hot!
What was the collaboration process like?
It is always smooth, the team is always great and follow up on everything, trust me I am the hardest person to catch!
Any last words?
I highly recommend the WOW studios team and if you haven’t had a chat yet, then you are missing out!
