CREATIVE TRENDS 2026:
WHAT THEY MEAN FOR YOUR BRAND AND HOW TO USE THEM
Every year, around this time we get inundated by reports about what the big trends will be in the coming year and this year is no different. 2026 it seems is going to be all about softness, humanity and connection. Shaped by values and a desire to redefine authenticity in this ever-changing and increasingly overwhelming AI world, the opportunity is there to slow things down, get intentional, and create a brand presence that truly feels like you.
If you’re a small business owner juggling clients, projects and deadlines, these trends can be your guiding star. Offering you practical tools you can use to make your brand feel more you, more relatable, and more memorable.
I’ve pulled the trends I think are most relevant to us small business owners from DepositPhotos’ Creative Trends 2026: The Soft Rebellion and translated them into simple ideas you can use in your marketing without spending hours on content every day.
Let’s dive in.
Reality Strikes – Let people see the real you
This trend is about being authentic! Its time to let go of perfection and let your audience see the real you. Not messy, unprofessional chaos… just honest, genuine moments.
Easy ways to use it:
- Share a real snapshot once a week. Don’t overthink it. It could be a pic of your desk, your dog under the desk, your “coffee before emails” ritual or anything that’s uniquely personal to you.
- Tell a small story from your business start up journey. Those moments spark connection and make you relatable.
- Record a quick client testimonial on your phone. No filters, no pre-staging, just real and human.
Your audience doesn’t want perfection. They want to see you.
Blue Hour – Use colour and design to create calm and trust
This trend is about creating moments for your audience to pause and gain a sense of calm in an otherwise busy online world. Use this one cautiously, you don’t want to confuse your brand, just add a few subtle touches that enhance your existing style.
How to make it work for your business:
- Add soft accents: Introduce gentle blue or muted tones into one or two elements of your current visuals. That way you keep your brand colours and brand recognition whilst giving your content a fresh, calming vibe.
- Pick the right moments: Use “blue hour” visuals for a specific type of content. Use it for a special tips segment or behind the scenes stories. That way it becomes a feature relating to a particular element of your brand without changing your overall tone.
- Experiment with images and backgrounds: Use a photo shot at dusk or stock imagery with soft blues that complement your palette. This avoids messing with your brand colours but adds a calm and visually appealing twist.
Authentically Artificial – AI + your real voice
AI is everywhere now, which means it’s even more important to ensure you keep your own voice in a sea of AI robots. AI is a tool and it’s there to help you but not replace you. This trend is all about blending AI with your own life experience.
Simple ideas:
- Use AI to help you brainstorm captions or topics… then edit them to suit your own voice humour and brand heart.
- Create a fun post: “How I actually use AI in my business (and the parts I still do myself!).”
- When designing graphics, try an AI-generated texture or abstract background, then pair it with your real photos.
It’s taking all the best bits of AI to make you more productive, but then still presenting your business in a way that’s unmistakably you.
Petal Power – Soft, natural, feminine energy
2026 is leaning into flowers and nature-inspired visuals. Think petals, leaves, textures and soft shapes. They represent growth and transformation. This one is especially good for those of you out there with feminine brands, or businesses with a focus on calming the mind, relaxation and mental health.
How to use it easily:
- Add a simple floral or organic element in your visuals.
- Capture a weekly nature photo (a flower, sunlight, leaves) and tie it to a brand message:
“Brands grow the same way nature does, slowly and intentionally.” - Use a flower metaphor in your workshops or posts to describe your client’s journey.
It’s soft, uplifting and inspirational.
Kidult – A reminder that play is powerful
It’s not about being childish, it’s about bringing a little playfulness back into your business. Add a little joy and curiosity to your marketing to get people engaged and feeling positive.
Here’s how without feeling silly:
- Make your content a touch more fun, add little icons, a cute mascot or playful colour pops.
- Do a “creative play day” post: you sketching, experimenting, brainstorming or just having a bit of fun generating new ideas.
- Add a fun call-to-action in your emails:
“Reply with your favourite colour and I’ll tell you what it says about your brand personality!”
It turns everyday moments into something fun and drives imagination.
The Tender Shift – Soft, empathetic storytelling
This one is all about bringing to life your values by leading with your brand heart and fostering connection and engagement.
Bring it into your marketing by:
- Writing captions that sound like conversations.
- Sharing stories about clients, what their pain points were and how you were able to help them.
- Using warm, calm visuals and gentle language in your workshops and posts.
It’s gentle, soft and incredibly powerful.
Quietly Loud – Minimal but confident
This might be your favourite trend if you love clean design but still want personality. Its bold but not overwhelming.
Try this:
- Use a simple layout with one strong headline.
- Pair a calm, minimal photo with a bold quote.
- Combine your strategic thinking with your creative side.
Its about keeping things simple and calm allowing one simple message to shine through the clutter.
Creative Sync – Wort smarter not harder
This one is about building brand cohesion and consistency. It’s more about getting into the flow of your brand.
Easy ways to implement:
- Create a mini library: your templates, brand colours, fonts, icons.
- Spend one morning a month batching content. You will instantly feel more organised.
- Choose a weekly topic and remove the ‘what do I post’ stress. Ie. Monday = Motivation, Wednesday = Tip, Friday = Client story.
Consistency is key. It’s one of the toughest parts to social media strategy and one most of us are guilty of not doing but it can have a big impact.
Putting It All Together: Creative Trends 2026
You don’t need to use all eight trends. Just pick two or three you relate to. Start with small, easy to achieve steps. One template. One weekly ritual. One updated colour choice.
Your experience and your brand heart are already in place. These trends will just help you express yourself in a way that builds trust and connection.
