Key marketing tips every small business owner can learn from!

This week I had the opportunity to visit another great Sydney networking and business skills event. Thanks so much to @creativeplusbusiness, Thrive Sydney and @rose_of_australia for hosting this fabulous event.

Not only was it a fantastic event for meeting like-minded business creatives and being mesmerised by the stunning art and decor, the facilitated chat with @belindadaly from @marketingedit was both informative and inspiring. She shared so many great marketing tips with us making the night well worth attending.

Here are my key takeaways from Belinda’s chat.

Collaboration is key

By working together and joining forces as creatives, we can have more impact. Get to know other players in your niche and local community and join forces to create inspired collaborations. And remember, the creative community is your lifeline to being unique.

Social media isn’t dead but its not the whole answer.

Social media is a facilitator to promote events and showcase successes. Try not to fixate on it, and if you’re keen on seeking corporate clients, LinkedIn can be a great resource.

Audiences are getting smarter.

Quick authentication self shot videos are what get attention. You don’t need a huge budget and a whole marketing team to draw attention on social media, people want to see the real you!

Connections and word of mouth trump digital!

Build your own database. Whist social media is a great tool, you shouldn’t rely solely on it. Not only can it be taken away without recourse, its inportant to remember real-life interactions will always leave a more lasting impact.

Websites are your connection between the old-school world and the digital space.

They give you a professional presence and help you rank on Google. Remember, however, that’s its important to keep them fresh and up to date.

With two more events coming up, the next one in August, if you haven’t heard of Creative Plus Business yet, make sure you check them out. Also, if you would like another take on all the fantastic advice from this event, check out this great blog from one of my fellow attendees, Jasmine from Good Communicator.
